As part of the community outreach initiative titled “Oppam Cheraam”, the NSS Unit of Wadihuda Higher Secondary School visited “Sanmarg” Old Age Home, a charitable institution for women run by Guardian Angels Charitable Trust, on 31 October 2026.
There were sixteen inmates at the old age home. Each of them had experienced various hardships, with many having no one to look after them. However, the volunteers were deeply moved to witness the loving care, compassion and warm smiles with which each resident was treated by the staff and volunteers of the institution.
The NSS volunteers distributed the fruits which were brought for the inmates with great affection. The emotional expressions and tearful eyes of the residents reflected their happiness and gratitude.
The volunteers at the institution truly embodied the NSS motto, “Not Me, But You.” In her welcome address, the Manager, Mrs. Faseela, reminded the NSS volunteers about the importance of caring for their parents and supporting compassionate institutions that welcome and care for those who have no one to look after them.
Mr. Jackson , psychiatrist, and counselor of that institution also joined with the students, entertaining them with poetry and storytelling.
The programme was conducted under the leadership of NSS Programme Officer Mrs. Anitha P.P. and Assistant Programme Officer Mrs. Shylaja A. NSS Leader Nasa Fathima delivered the vote of thanks.
As the volunteers bid farewell to the inmates and left the institution, a firm resolve was reflected in every volunteer's eyes – “We are with you.”
