On 5 July 2025, Progressive English School observed Bashir Commemoration Day to honour the life and literary legacy of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, the celebrated Malayalam writer known for his simplicity, wit, and deep portrayal of human emotions.
The day featured a variety of literary activities designed to engage students with Basheer’s works. Muhammed Mustafa, Lena, and Fathima Ashraf & Rashan , grade IX students presented dramatic interpretations of memorable characters from his stories, effectively conveying their humour and emotional richness.
A speech competition followed, where students reflected on Basheer’s unique narrative style, his empathy for the common man, and his seamless blend of humour and truth. A literary quiz was also conducted, with participants submitting written responses to the Answer Box placed in the school office.
