Progressive English School celebrated Basheer Day on 6 July 2026 with a series of vibrant literary programmes that paid tribute to the life and timeless works of the legendary Malayalam writer, Vaikom Muhammad Basheer .
The celebration commenced with a special radio message presented by Ms. Farsana P.T ., Malayalam faculty, highlighting Basheer's inspiring life, literary journey, and invaluable contributions to Malayalam literature.
Students brought Basheer's stories to life through a captivating visual presentation based on the novels Mathilukal and Ntuppooppakkoranendarnnu . The celebration became even more lively with a skit and engaging character enactments inspired by the unforgettable personalities from Basheer's works.
The programmes were thoughtfully planned for different stages. Students of the Foundation Stage participated in a character enactment portraying memorable characters from Basheer's stories. In the Preparatory Stage, students displayed Basheer remembrance messages and his inspiring quotations, followed by character presentations that reflected their understanding of his literary creations.
A Bulletin Board Competition for Grade VII encouraged students to creatively explore and present Basheer's literary legacy. An exhibition of his books and literary works was also arranged in the school corridor, offering students an opportunity to discover and appreciate the richness of his writings.
The celebration concluded on a meaningful note, inspiring students to develop a deeper love for Malayalam literature and a greater appreciation for the enduring legacy of Vaikom Muhammad Basheer.
